Below are the dates for the upcoming MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) Assessments. MAP Assessments (standardized tests) are given three (3) times each school year.
Parents--please bring your well-rested student(s) to school on time. Also, please ensure that your student(s) eat a hearty and healthy breakfast before school, especially on the MAP Assessment mornings.

Let's get ready for some SPX spooky fun!
Please join us for a great SPX tradition: Trunk or Treat!
Our annual Trunk or Treat will be held on Friday, October 25th in the front parking lot of the school.
Here's the timeline:
6:00 pm - Parking lot opens to families
6:30 pm - Group picture on the steps of the Church followed by students Trunk or Treating from car to car
7:30 pm - Clean-up
Notes:
- This event is for SPX families only
- Kids must stay with their parents during set-up and clean-up as there are cars moving around the parking lot and it is not safe.
- Families who participate in this event are expected to decorate their car and have enough candy for all participants. Families cannot just come to trick or treat.
- There is a $5 fee for each participating car. There will be no sales at the door - all participants must pre-pay online.
- There will be a BEST in TRUNK award!

SANTA NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Our annual Christmas Bazaar is almost upon us. This year, the Bazaar will be held on December 9 and 10, in Father Nelson Hall. This very special event provides our children with the opportunity to do their holiday shopping for their families. More details to come.
In the meantime, to prepare for this wonderful event, several of Santa’s Shops need additional helpers. These helpers or chairs are responsible for procuring inventory for their shop, setting up their shop for each day of the Bazaar and selling on the Bazaar days. Chairs must be VIRTUS certified since the bazaar takes place during school hours.
We are looking for additional chairs for the following shops:
Bethlehem Boutique (Religious Table)Reindeer Stables (Pet Table) North Pole Café (Kitchen)
In addition to these shops, we also need an additional finance chair. The finance chair would help the current chair with obtaining, distributing, and collecting money for the duration of the Bazaar.

Going Green…
In order to become more mindful of the presence of chemicals in our everyday lives and the potential impact these harmful chemicals can have on our health, environment and planet, SPX will begin using more environmentally friendly and conscious cleaning products in the classrooms. These non toxic cleaning products will be used throughout the school day by the students and teachers. Each evening the previously donated wipes will be used to disinfect all desktops by an adult.
Tag Day News (October 11, 2024)
Our October tag day (Friday, October 11, 2024) will go to support a local nonprofit organization near and dear to our school. Mrs. Norris, one of our second-grade teachers, was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2016 at just 34 years old. While fighting her own battle, she decided she wanted to do something impactful to support her fellow fighters. Since 2017, she has provided comfort and support to nearly a thousand men and women facing various cancer diagnosis, including many in our SPX CommUNITY. She can't continue this mission alone! She uses funds to provide bags containing high-quality, non-toxic items to aid fighters through their treatments and surgeries. She delivers bags locally and ships them all over the country. Additionally, as a Maryland Certified Community Health Worker, she provides the option of peer support to every fighter she connects with. She is a fierce warrior with a big heart! City of Bowie MLK Art Contest
To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and highlight his accomplishments and the continued need for social justice work, the City of Bowie Diversity Committee is sponsoring an annual art contest for Bowie students in grades K-12. The theme for the 2024-2025 contest is "Keeping The Dream Alive.” Students can express their creativity through either performing or visual arts.
Entries must be submitted online, and the deadline to enter is December 5 at 5 p.m. More information is available on our webpage and attached for your reference. We look forward to seeing the wonderful talent from our Bowie students.
CYO 2024-2025 Basketball Program Registration Information
SPX CYO is conducting registration for its winter 2024-2025 Basketball program that the Archdiocese of Washington CYO (ADW CYO) operates. The ADW CYO program aims to help boys and girls foster strong principles of teamwork and sportsmanship both on and off the court, all while developing their physical talents, learning to play fairly and enthusiastically, and appreciating Christ’s presence in their opponents. The SPX CYO program is open for ages 10U - 14U. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

THE FOOTBALL MANIA FUNDRAISER IS BACK!

Do you have a favorite NFL Football team? Or do you just like to watch the NFL games? Purchase a Football Mania e-ticket in support of the SPX CYO fundraiser.
Each game card has three randomly generated teams listed per week (weeks 9-18). Each week, 30 winners will be selected.

Just make sure they put your child’s name in the seller box so they receive proper credit. This is important, as the class that sells the most tickets will receive a pizza party from the SPX CYO board.

School Photograph Day--Retakes
The retake photo day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Only students who are having photos retaken that day may wear tag day clothes (but the Tag Day dress code must be followed). All other students who are not having photos retaken that day must report to school in the regular school uniform. The parent contact for questions is customercare@legacystudios.com. The weekly Newsnotes newsletter is emailed to school parents, faculty, and staff Thursday mornings after 10 am. Event chairs should email any paragraphs explaining the event, photos, event flyers, section headers, etc. to Mrs. Reimer in the front office at preimer@stpiusbowie.org.
