FAMILY SURVEY
The family survey is vital to secure services both for our school and those in the county. It is essential to have every family complete the poverty survey. Each form is confidential. Only complete one survey per family, but be sure to include grade levels for all of your children attending our school. Please fill out the survey and return it to the school no later than Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY
NEW THIS SCHOOL YEAR-- All absences must be reported to the school by 8 am. If your student is absent you MUST call the school and/or email Mrs. Fay at pfay@stpiusbowie.org. Any non confirmed absences will be verified by phone from the office. If a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive days a doctor's note is required for the student to return to school.
NEW TARDY POLICY
NEW THIS SCHOOL YEAR-- Please note our new late arrival (tardy) policy which can be found in our handbook - "Each student will be allowed 5 unexcused tardies each quarter, after the 5th tardy, parents will be charged a $10.00 fee for each time their child is late. This fee will be charged through TADS."
AFTERNOON DISMISSAL POLICY
To ensure the safety of all our students, per our handbook, located on our website, "Students will only be dismissed from the front school parking lot. Students are not permitted to enter cars parked along the Middle School, along the Church driveway, or into cars parked for the second wave. Parents are not permitted to park along neighboring side streets and walk to pick up their children."
MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURE
Thank you so much for your patience as we transition to a new school year with new procedures and policies. Your patience as we navigate our morning drop-off is very much appreciated.
WALKERS PASS
For a student to walk home from school, we must first have a walker pass completed and returned to the school. This form is available in the link and on our website. No student will be permitted to walk home until we have received this form.
YEARBOOK UPDATE
The yearbooks for the 2022 - 2023 school year have arrived! If you ordered a yearbook please come in to the school to pick it up. 8th grade graduates' yearbooks are in the front office.
NEW STAFF SPOTLIGHT
St. Pius X Regional School has welcomed several new staff members this school year. We would like to take a moment to showcase these new faculty members so you can get to know them. Each week we will be introducing you to one of our wonderful new additions. This week we will meet Mrs. Que Gaskins, Art Teacher.
Mrs. Gaskins' professional experience and educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture, Masters of Fine Arts in Fashion, Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership with a focus on culturally responsive pedagogy, she also decided to add an Environmental Education Certification with some 90 hours certificates as well... a little bit about Mrs. Gaskins, she is a mom of three and has been married for 16 years. She shares "I am grounded by my faith and absolutely love sharing what I've learned in art with others. Art is the foundation for all creativity, and innovation."
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PICTURE DAY
Picture day is coming to St. Pius! Picture day is Friday, September 15th. Parent volunteers are need to make this day a success. Any parents interested in volunteering should email Mrs. D'Angelo at kdangelo@stpiusbowie.org no later than Friday, September 8th. All parent volunteers for this event must be Virtus certified.
LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS WANTED!
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity for this school year? Please consider volunteering in the school library! TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED. You do not have to choose your student’s scheduled library time, but may if you would like to. Multiple volunteers for the same class will rotate duties each month. In addition to scheduled class times, Ms. Neitzey needs volunteers each morning from 8:30-9:30am to check in and re-shelve books. Choose one of the times or more! Volunteer schedules may change each quarter, and you may choose different volunteer times to accommodate your schedule. Volunteering in the library is a yearlong commitment. VETERANS OF FOREIGN WAR’S SPONSORED
PATRIOT'S PEN ESSAY CONTEST FOR 6TH-8TH GRADERS
Conducted nationwide, this VFW-sponsored youth essay competition gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. We invite you to join the more than 73,000 students in 6-8th grade who participated last year in this Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest. Prizes and scholarships will be awarded to winners at the Post, District, State and national level. Department (State) winners receive a portion of $55,000 in national awards. National Winners will receive at least $500. The first-place national award is currently $5,000. The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word
essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW
Commander-in-Chief. The 2023-24 theme is: “How are you inspired by America?”.
The entry deadline is October 31, 2023.

Vaccine Requirements 2023-2024 School Year
Updates: Please check your students immunization record and make sure it is up to date and the School Nurse has an updated copy.
**** Students entering 7th grade must have a TDAP and MCV vaccine prior to the start of the new school year. Please if your child has already received these vaccinations send in a copy with your student or send to my email.
We will enforce exclusion from school if not received prior to the first day of school.

ST. PIUS X CYO FALL SPORTS
Fall Registration: SPX CYO is offering Soccer and Cross-Country as part of our fall sports programs. We offer 8U - 14U for both our Soccer and Cross-Country programs. Please see the attached flyer for the age eligibility, cost, and registration link information. PLEASENOTE: Spaces are limited for our 8U Co-Ed Soccer program, as well as our 10U Boys, 12U Boys, and 14U Boys Soccer teams as teams are quickly filling up.
We are in need of 12U Girls players to complete a team. Please consider playing for CYO. It's a great opportunity for the kids to be with their friends, learn in a developmental environment (ages 8U & 10U), and compete for our Parish program.
