NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY
NEW THIS SCHOOL YEAR-- All absences must be reported to the school by 8 am. If your student is absent you MUST call the school and/or email Mrs. Fay at pfay@stpiusbowie.org. Any non confirmed absences will be verified by phone from the office. If a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive days a doctor's note is required for the student to return to school.
NEW TARDY POLICY
NEW THIS SCHOOL YEAR-- Please note our new late arrival (tardy) policy which can be found in our handbook - "Each student will be allowed 5 unexcused tardies each quarter, after the 5th tardy, parents will be charged a $10.00 fee for each time their child is late. This fee will be charged through TADS."
DISMISSAL POLICY
To ensure the safety of all our students, per our handbook, located on our website, "Students will only be dismissed from the front school parking lot. Students are not permitted to enter cars parked along the Middle School, along the Church driveway, or into cars parked for the second wave. Parents are not permitted to park along neighboring side streets and walk to pick up their children."

On our Pizza Lunch days, students also have the opportunity to purchase items from our Bake Sale.
We are looking for volunteers on the day of the bake sale and bakers. Volunteers will assist in selling the baked goods to the classrooms. The perk of volunteering the day of the sale is that you get an opportunity to see your child.
In addition, we are seeking bakers to commit to donating two dozen (24) baked wrapped goodies for each bake sale for the whole school year. VSP hours will be provided: 1.5 VSP hours will be earned for each dozen of HOMEMADE goodies, .5 VSP hours will be provided for donating store bought items. Please clearly mark your items with your child's name and classroom in order to get credit.
PLEASE NOTE: Brownies, Rice Krispies treats and similar baked goods should be no smaller than the palm of your hand (i.e. one 9x13 oblong pan should yield 12 brownies, Rice Krispies treats, etc.). At least 2 to 3 cookies must be wrapped together in order to count as 1 item (i.e. a batch of 36 cookies will yield 12-18 items, not a full 3 dozen). Ziploc bags work best for packing items.
*Due to allergies we kindly ask that you do not make anything that contains peanuts or tree nuts.

SPX Room Parents coordinate and assist our teachers in planning and conducting holiday parties (middle school lunches) and special events as requested by the teacher, as well as specific grade level events. Each class will have 1 LEAD Room Parent who will be the main point of contact with the teacher and Room Parent Coordinator. Each class will also have 1 or 2 Room Parents, for a total of 3 maximum.
Room Parents must be able to be in school to help with the holiday parties / lunches and special events. The days and times of these events are known in advance so that work and family schedules can be adjusted. The full calendar will be given at the Mandatory Room Parent Meeting.
Any parent wishing to be a Room Parent for their child’s class for the 2023 – 2024 school year must fill out the application and return it to their child’s teacher by Friday, September 8, 2023. Applications will be reviewed by the teachers, approved by the Principal and you will be notified on Friday, September 15, 2023 either way.
A MANDATORY Room Parent Meeting will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 for ALL ROOM PARENTS. Grades PK3 - 5 will meet at 5:00 pm and Grades 6 - 8 at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be in the Hall.
You can apply to be a Room Parent for any and all of your children’s classes. However - if selected by two separate teachers – parents can only be a Room Parent for one class.

Our first Home & School Association (HSA) Meeting of the year will be held IN PERSON on Monday, September 25 at 7 pm in Nelson Hall. All parents are encouraged to attend this important meeting to hear valuable information from our school administration, school organization and events.
We are also providing the opportunity for parents to be fingerprinted as part of the VIRTUS certification process. A reminder that anyone who wants to volunteer at school events such a field trips, class parties, the Christmas Bazaar, Bake Sales, Pizza Lunch, CFA Lunch, etc MUST be VITUS certified.

We are excited to announce that this year the middle school is going to start a Cavalier House system. The goal of the Cavalier Houses is to promote character, academic success, school spirit, a family atmosphere, and a culture of excellence in our school. The Houses will uplift and inspire all students while creating a culture of belonging.
House members work together to earn points for their house. Points can be earned by participating in friendly House contests, displaying positive behavior, engaging in service activities, and getting involved in additional activities that might be going on in the school.
It is truly exciting that this year’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will be the founding members of the Cavalier Houses. There are 4 houses which are each named after one of our regional parishes:
Ascension House
Sacred Heart House
St. Edward House
St. Pius X House

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS WANTED!
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity for this school year? Please consider volunteering in the school library! TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED. You do not have to choose your student’s scheduled library time, but may if you would like to. Multiple volunteers for the same class will rotate duties each month. In addition to scheduled class times, Ms. Neitzey needs volunteers each morning from 8:30-9:30am to check in and re-shelve books. Choose one of the times or more! Volunteer schedules may change each quarter, and you may choose different volunteer times to accommodate your schedule. Volunteering in the library is a yearlong commitment. Track it Forward is the online system that our school uses to track our VSP (Volunteer Support Program) hours. A reminder that every family is required to participate. Dual parent homes are required to complete 20 hours, single parent families 10 hours. Uncompleted hours will be charged at the rate of $25 per hours.
All families must have an account to track their hours - accounts from past years are still active. The site can be found at https://www.trackitforward.com/site/st-pius-x-regional-school
Hours must be logged within 30 days of the event or they will not be approved. Parents are required to input their own hours which are then sent to the head of that activity to approve.
Parents who volunteered or donated as part of the Uniform Sales this summer, Welcome Back Week or the Back to School BBQ are encouraged to log their hours now.

UNEARNED VSP HOURS
All unearned VSP hours from the 2022-2023 School year will be billed in your October tuition.
COVID- 19 INFORMATION
- If your child/ren are sick please stay home, if showing signs of COVID-19 please take a test. (please contact the school, we can send home a test with your child)
- If your child/ren tests positive please stay home, email your child’s teacher and the school nurse (mbenson@stpiusbowie.org)
- If your child is positive our protocol is to have them stay home for 5 days from the date they tested positive. The date of positivity is DAY 0. Upon the student’s return to school they may continue to mask until all symptoms have improved or until 10 days from positive test.
- If you have siblings who may be a close contact: test if they are negative they may continue to attend school. If they begin to show symptoms, students will be sent home and asked to retest.
- You may choose to send your child in with a mask at any time. Please supply extras in their bookbag and inform their teacher that you would like them to wear a mask.

ST. PIUS X CYO FALL SPORTS
Fall Registration: SPX CYO is offering Soccer and Cross-Country as part of our fall sports programs. We offer 8U - 14U for both our Soccer and Cross-Country programs. Please see the attached flyer for the age eligibility, cost, and registration link information. PLEASENOTE: Spaces are limited for our 8U Co-Ed Soccer program, as well as our 10U Boys, 12U Boys, and 14U Boys Soccer teams as teams are quickly filling up.
We are in need of 12U Girls players to complete a team. Please consider playing for CYO. It's a great opportunity for the kids to be with their friends, learn in a developmental environment (ages 8U & 10U), and compete for our Parish program.
